Transition to Turbulence in Pipe Flow |
講演要旨: |
I will briefly review what is known about the transition to
turbulence in pipe flow before concentrating upon `puffs'. These are
localised patches of turbulence excited at low Reynolds numbers and
which maintain their identity as they travel downstream. These
structures are interesting because a) they appear special to pipe
flow, b) they can abruptly relaminarise and c) they provide a low
energy state which allows connection with recently-discovered
travelling waves. I will try to discuss all of these issues.
