The physics of laser-plasma interactions is a field of intense activity, with large-scale experiments being developed in Europe and in the US. Numerical simulations can play a prominent role in the success of these projects. Model based on the fundamental equations of physics, such as the Euler-Maxwell equations in the case of an hydrodynamical description of the plasma, or the Vlasov-Maxwell equations in the case of a kinetic description, are too complex to allow efficient simulations. Hence the need of simple model systems. We will discuss stability issues for such model systems based on the Zakharov equations. |
