Computational modeling of mixed continuum and rarefied flows |
講演要旨: |
Reaction Control Systems for planetary probes and re-entry vehicles inject a continuum flow into a rarefied atmosphere. Understanding vehicle response to these control systems raises the problem of how a continuum and a highly rarefied flow interact; solving this problem therefore requires flow computation over a wide range of Knudsen numbers. One current methodology uses the Direct Simulation Monte Carlo method in the rarefied flow and conventional Navier-Stokes solvers in the continuum flow and defines the transition between them by an empirical breakdown parameter. The successes and limitations of this method will be evaluated and some alternative formulations will be described. |
