How far could the continuum model say about the intrinsic localized modes in nonlinear lattices |

> In this lecture, we propose a regularized model equation to describe the intrinsic localized modes in one-dimensional (1D) anharmonic lattices. We will show that this model equation admits both stationary and moving breather solutions. A detailed comparison between the model equation and its original lattice system will be given. This work is far more than complete, further research is called for in order to clarify the properties of breather-breather collisions, and extend the regulatized model to 1D diatomic and multi-dimensional lattices. Some ideas will be given on these aspects if time permits. |
