Scalar Exchange and Turbulence at Gas-Liquid Interfaces |
講演要旨: |
Scalar exchange across gas-liquid interfaces has important impacts on many industrial and biogeochemical systems, from regional weather and long-term climate to re-aeration of anoxic waters, and yet such processes remain poorly understood. The talk will discuss recent progress in understanding of this subject. In particular, a surface divergence model for near-surface turbulence and scalar transfer will be discussed and applied to recent experimental data. The data will include conditions in which short wavelength breaking occurs. These “microbreakers” do not entrain air but give rise to regions of surface liquid convergence at their crests and regions of divergence behind, which in turn substantially enhance scalar exchange. The results suggest that microbreaking dominates air-water gas transfer at the average wind velocities, U10 〜 7.5 m/s, thought to occur over terrestrial water bodies. |
