Inertial transport and thermophoretic deposition of dispersed particles in a turbulent channel |

Transport and deposition of a dispersed phase in a non-isothermal turbulent plane channel flow is investigated numerically by means of Direct Numerical Simulation within the framework of an Eulerian formulation to model particle transport. The Eulerian formulation for the dispersed phase, originally presented by Saffman is introduced and further simplified for the case of highly diluted, small particles. Such a reduced model allows to skip the solution of the particle phase momentum equation. Even under very simplyfing hipothesis the present formulation allows for elucidating the intimate phenomena determining local deposition patterns and their relation with the dominant near-to-the-wall coherent structures. The final part of the seminar will be devoted to a general presentation of the Group in multiphase flow modelling and simulations activities. |
