Transient adjustment process of a viscous fluid in a rotating container |
講演要旨: |
Time-dependent adjustment process of a viscous fluid in a rapidly-rotating cylinder is described. The significance of the Ekman boundary layer pumping mechanism is discussed. The emergence of meridional flow is modeled. Due to the container-wide bulk fluid motion, the adjustment process is shown to be substantially accomplished over the spin-up timescale, which is an order-of-magnitude smaller than the diffusive time-scale. The start-up problem from rest will be depicted. |
