On a numerical approach to the computation of the Boltzmann collision operator on non-uniform grids |

A new approach to non Monte-Carlo computation of the Boltzmann collision operator is suggested. In contrast to known spectral approximations using standard FFT (fast Fourier transform) on uniform grids, we can handle approximations with adaptive grids and discontinuous distribution functions. This is done by using the projection on a multiresolution basis and results with an alternative Fourier based fast computation of the gain part of the collision integral. |
